Cleveland State University – Washkewicz College of Engineering
While at Bialosky, Dave Hood the founder of Forest City Engineers served as the lead engineer on the Cleveland State University Washkewicz College of Engineering project. As lead engineer, Dave was responsible for the MEP engineering design of Washkewicz’s 40,000sf, $11.2M teaching and research engineering lab space. With complex lab HVAC needs, limited floor to ceiling heights and complex structural elements, this project required unique and flexible engineering solutions. Dave oversaw a design that added new chilled water mains and upgraded pumping systems, well placed ductwork shafts to reduce the size of ductwork required, and a variable volume supply and lab exhaust systems to reduce energy needs. Additionally, the design included an overhead electrical bus and lab gas system to allow the university flexibility with power and gas drops as well as localized lab vacuum systems to reduce the quantity of piping within the building. Not only did this project deliver the flexibility needed for university and lab use, but it also resulted in a LEED Gold Certification.
